Enjoy a self-guided tour for four at Taft Gardens.

With maintained paths and seating areas, the 15 acres of curated gardens inspires visitors to learn about the majesty of nature and it’s complexities. Hand-painted botanical tiles mark the path of the Docent Guided tour through the South African and Australian Gardens. Sculptures adorn the garden with curated art pieces inspiring each visitor to explore the connection between themselves and their environment. Scheduled Self-Guided Visitors follow detailed driving instructions two and half miles up Santa Ana Canyon in the foothills above Lake Casitas then enjoy a 1.5mile walking loop through the gardens to the Art Studio where the Taft Art in Nature Residents reside.

Beyond the cultivated gardens and grounds, lies almost 200 acres of California Open Space protected by a Conservation Easement with the Wildlife Land Trust. The easement provides connectivity and safe passage for wildlife who live among the surrounding protected lands and prohibits agricultural uses that would add pollution to the watershed. Currently, Self Guided Visitors only have access to the cultivated garden area and can only visit the preserve during special events. Taft Nature Preserve Restoration is an ongoing campaign to raise funds for the expansion of the Self-Guided Walk out of the garden and into the preserve through trail construction and native habitat restoration.
